Map Of Maryland

Author: Jimmy Sturo

A map of Marlyand will show you everything you need about finding your way around Maryland. The state of Maryland is situated on the east coast of the United States. The topography of the state is quite different from that of other states. It is divided into two regions, namely east Maryland and west Maryland by the Chesapeake Bay. The state is surrounded by Pennsylvania in the north, West Virginia in the west, Delaware in the northeast and Virginia in the south. The Potomac River acts as a natural border with the surrounding state of Virginia. Annapolis is the capital of Maryland and Baltimore is the biggest city of the state.

The state lies in the region of 3753'N to 3943'N latitude and 754'W to 7933'W longitude. The Backbone Mountain is the highest point in the state. The Appalachian Mountains also run through the state. The Chesapeake Bay lies on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, with Virginia on the other side of it.

The most striking part of the state is probably Chesapeake Bay. The shores in and around it are heavily indented. The bay is around 189 miles long and its width varies between 4 to 30 miles. The total length of the shoreline surrounding the bay is around 11,600 miles.

The map of Maryland is topographically unique. The bay is the largest estuary in the United States. More than 150 rivers and streams contribute to the huge size of the bay. The area provides for the development of local waterways and rural farm economy that includes fishing.
